Fish Day!

Today the kindergarten celebrated Fish Day.  The five classrooms each had various activities related to ocean life. The kids got to go to the different rooms on their own and pick the activities they wanted to do.  Even Mrs. McDonald stopped by to join in the fun. Many kids thought it was the best day ever!  All the items they made were hung in our hall to make our own aquarium. Thanks to Mrs. Freeman and Mrs. Tulipano for all their help.

We look forward to going to the Aquarium on Tuesday.

Friday will be a pajama day for the whole school.

We will celebrate Valentine's Day on February 12th.  A list will be going home next week.  That will be the last day before vacation.

101 Happenings

The Science Center came to us with two cute hedgehogs named Penny and Pearl. We learned about their habitats, what they eat, and how they protect themselves. The children were surprised to learn they live in Africa and eat manly insects. We saw them roll in a ball, make noises and use their quills to keep predators away.  Some brave kids touched them to feel the quills.

We've sent home a sight word bingo for the kids to practice.

I'll be testing next week on the addition facts. Everyone seems to be doing pretty well with them.

Just a reminder that the Aquarium field trip money is due the 26th. I could use one more chaperone if anyone is interested.

Go Pats! 🏈

Happenings

We are rested and ready to get back to work in the new year. We have begun learning about the ocean and what lives there. We were able to compare and contrast the characteristics of a fish and a mammal.  We will continue with ocean life for the month of January, then visit the New England Aquarium on February 2. That info was sent home today.

In math we have started addition. The children need to know their math facts to five, addition and subtraction, by March. To be fluent means to know the answer in 3 seconds. I will send home the facts next week. You can cut them up to make flash cards to practice.

Today during library we had a guest reader who turned out to be Mrs. McDonald. The class enjoyed her reading a story about two special friends, a mouse and a vole.
